Business against COVID

Business against COVID

The COVID-19 pandemic poses serious risks to the  well-being of Mozambique’s citizens, as well as to their livelihoods and businesses. Delivering a robust response to these challenges requires deep engagement with stakeholders in Mozambique’s economy, to protect jobs, and strengthen economic resilience.

With a view to forge a collective and coordinated response to the economic challenges of COVID, UNDP Mozambique has launched a Business Against COVID initiative. This initiative  aims to create a coalition of the business community, providing a platform for engagement, knowledge sharing, and collaboration. .

The Four Pillars

The Business Against COVID initiative is structured around four pillars:

The Business Against COVID platform would allow members to benefit from a range of knowledge products, including:

  • Case Studies
  • Case Studies
  • Podcasts
  • Policy Briefs
  • Sector Briefs
  • Webinars
  • 5-minute interviews with business leaders
  • Guidelines and Toolkits
  • Surveys

The Business Against COVID platform would also create a community of practice, which would help the business community in Mozambique in a number of ways, including:

  •  Mentoring for MSMEs
  •  Local Content Pacts
  •  Expert Insight Videos
  •  Business Continuity Plans
  • Practical guidance and advice on supply chain resilience
  • Advice to members on reviewing business models

By bringing together businesses from several sectors, the Business Against COVID initiative will facilitate and broker B2B, B2G, and B2C collaborations, including for:

  • Contributing to government response efforts through donations or in-kind support
  • Seeking out commercial opportunities that arise out the crisis
  • Working with UNDP and other UN agencies on specific projects on COVID response

Crises such as the COVID pandemic can serve as opportunities for new business models, exploring new markets, or transforming existing ones. The Business Against COVID would promote and facilitate innovations, such as:

  • Digital transformation of SMEs
  • Working with local startups to pitch for funding on COVID-related innovation challenges
  • Helping local businesses connect with national and regional markets through e-Commerce platforms

How to join the Business Against COVID Initiative

Joining the Business Against COVID is free, voluntary, and very simple. Any organisation—international, local, SME, startup, non-profit, academic— can join simply by signing a Business Against COVID Pledge. This Pledge is an expression of commitment by businesses to supporting the government and UNDP on the COVID Response. The Pledge can be signed online, or printed, signed by the CEO or authorized representative, and sent to siri.johnsen@undp.org .
